External School Review
Dear Parents and Students,
As part of our continuous school improvement we will be involved in an external school review with a review panel. The purpose of external school reviews is to support schools to raise achievement, sustain high performance and provide quality assurance to build public confidence in government schools.
All government schools will be externally reviewed every four years.
The focus of the review is to evaluate school performance. The review panel consists of a review officer and a trained review principal. The review will occur from Tuesday 28 August to Thursday 30 August 2018
We will find out the aspects of the school’s improvement that have been verified through the review processes as well as the improvements that we need to make in the future.
During the external school review, some students, parents, governing council members and staff will be asked to provide information to the review panel in a number of ways. These include:
- individual interviews
- group discussions (with students or staff or parents)
- visits into classrooms.
Staff and students will also have the opportunity to contribute to the review through a survey. Students can access the survey from https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2W37WDK
We appreciate your support and time in helping us with this external school review process.
Regards,
Stephen Inglis

Fund My Neighbourhood Project
Councillor Garry Knoblauch, community member on Governing Council and member of the Norwood Payneham & St Peters Council, has advised that Priscilla Corbell from the OAC has put forward the following project on the Fund My Neighbourhood site:
Install an all-inclusive 3 generations play space to foster health and wellbeing of the school community and broader community, to include play equipment, and other elements to attract and entertain all age groups. The new play space will provide an enhancement to the entire community and compliment the adjacent MARS Sport Centre by creating a space that can be used by visitors and the many passers-by. In addition, enhanced safety features will include additional pedestrian and cyclist signage, traffic calming by landscaping and artistic design elements, to possibly include native plantings, mosaics and a statue.
Please consider voting for the project here.

25 Year Anniversary
On the 21 of September 2017, Marden Senior College conducted an event to mark our 25-year anniversary. The day will consisted of an open afternoon, where past and current students and staff, previous Principals and the general public were invited to tour the college and participate in activities. The open afternoon was scheduled from 2-4pm.
The Open Day will showcased Marden Senior College present and past. Visitors were invited to walk around the college, view current lessons and student work on display as well as a showcase of information and artefacts from the past. There was also an opportunity to contribute to a time capsule to be stored for similar celebrations in the future, such as a 50th anniversary in 2042.
The purpose of the Open Day was to bring the Marden community together – past and present staff and students. It also provided an opportunity for surrounding residents to take a ‘look behind the fence’ and for prospective students and their families to see the school in action.

Marden Senior College structures, processes and personnel are committed to providing a supportive learning environment for all students.
The range of support services available to students at the college includes:
Student Counsellors
The Counselling team is available to support students in all matters relating to their enrolment at the college. Course counselling is not only provided to students during their enrolment interview, but is available at any time throughout the year. As student circumstances or interests may change, subjects and loads can also be adjusted to accommodate these changes and support the planning towards a different pathway.
Our confidential counselling service can assist in matters relating to:

Subject Teachers
Teachers can provide students with expert guidance relating to subject specific issues as well as negotiating around assessment requirements should the need arise. They should be the first port of call for a student experiencing some difficulty with a subject matter.
Pastoral Care Worker
The Pastoral Care Worker’s (Chaplain’s) role is one of providing support and encouragement to the school community. Employed by local churches, the Chaplain has a particular interest in the spiritual and emotional life of the school. As a staff member, but not a teacher, the Chaplain provides another means for members of the school community to gain support in these vital aspects of their lives. The Chaplain also plays a role in supporting teachers in school events and excursions, facilitating student activities and providing input in the teaching of ethical and personal development topics.
Mentors
All students under 18 years of age are provided with a mentor by the college after enrolment. Mentor support may also be offered to other students who need additional support throughout the year. The mentor is a support person a student can speak with about issues relating to study or other matters of a personal nature. The mentor can personally advise the student or support the student to access other services within the college and beyond.
SACE Co-ordinator
The SACE Co-ordinator supports students in all matters relating to SACE completion including:
· SACE pattern requirements
· Special Provisions in Assessment
· Assessment policies and protocols around deadlines or breaches of rules
